Idol tour violates child labor laws Permalink | No Comments Yet

It’s bad enough that American Idol kept Sanjaya Malakar’s hopes alive long enough to guarantee him a spot on the tour of the top 10. But now, the fact that Sanjaya and Idol winner Jordiin Sparks were underage when the tour started is giving the AI execs some headaches. Seems they didn’t file the right paperwork to comply with child labor laws. Oops.

Whew - that’s a relief! Permalink | No Comments Yet

American Idol co-creator and judge has made an announcement that should make all of the US heave a sigh of relief. He will not be having children. No word on whether or not his partner Terri Seymour is happy with this decision, but I can only imagine any hypothetical children of his would be. “I’m sorry, but you are the most pathetic excuse of a child I’ve ever seen.”

250 people in London attended a charity concert, expecting to see the Scottish rock group Biffy Clyro. And they did - with a little bonus. Bono and The Edge from U2 showed up unexpectedly and played four songs to warm up the audience. The concert was a benefit for the charity group Mencamp - a group focused on equal rights for those with learning abilities.

Britney can’t drive kids Permalink | No Comments Yet

She’s already lost custody of her two boys, and now Britney Spears will not be allowed to drive them in her car. Her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, and his legal team called a special hearing to point out her driving skills - or lack thereof. This resulted in the judge handing down a ruling that she can not drive the boys in her car. When is this woman going to learn that if she wants to parent her kids, she better shape up?

Celine Dion goes on tour Permalink | No Comments Yet

After five years of playing Vegas (can you believe it’s been that long?), Celine Dion is ready to hit the road again. She will start her world tour next August, with an entirely new show. She will be performing in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia before touring across the US and Canada. I’m sure the tickets will be pricey, but fans have plenty of time to save.

People’s Choice Awards add categories Permalink | No Comments Yet

The People’s Choice Awards are determined to be the awards show of the younger set. Not as young as the MTV Movie Awards maybe (there’s no favorite screen kiss category), but more hip and pop culture-oriented than the Oscars or Golden Globes. The awards that are chosen by the fans have added some new categories: Favorite Reunion Tour, Favorite Threequel, and Favorite Indie Movie. Of course, the threequels in the running are Spiderman 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and The Bourne Ultimatum. Which of the threequels was your favorite?

Buffy sing-alongs on hold Permalink | No Comments Yet

The musical episode of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer called “Once More, With Feeling” is so popular that people have been watching it at movie theaters. They dress up and sing along, Rocky Horror Picture Show-style. Fox isn’t happy with the whole thing, though, and has put a stop to the practice until the whole legal thing is straightened out. Which means, of course, “When do we get paid?”

Kelly Clarkson cancelled her tour earlier this year, but now she’s heading on the road after all. Tickets will go on sale on the 15th, for a 26-theater tour, which will start in October. The tour will stop at smaller venues than the arenas that were planned earlier, and I’m sure Clarkson will not have any trouble filling them.

It’s a duet with one part coming from the great beyond. Lisa Marie Presley recorded a duet of her father Elvis’s hit “In the Ghetto” - with her father. She laid down her own vocals over her dad’s. The duet is in honor of the 30th anniversary of The King’s death. 30 years! Where did the time go?

High School Musical 2 mania Permalink | No Comments Yet

Over 17 million pre-teens (and their parents, presumably) watched Disney’s premiere of High School Musical 2. The watchers were not simply kids - and I know this from personal experience. I watched it with my 10-year-old daughter, and although I didn’t love it as much as I did the first one, it was still very good. Nice to see good family films being made - and finding an audience.
